Matka Hygiene: Do you store drinking water in earthen pot? Must do this every time before refilling it

During summer many households choose to drink water from earthen pots or matka as it keeps the water cool and is better for digestion.

However, it is very important to maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the pot from time to time. Recently, nutritionist Hetal Chheda shared how unwashed matkas can have insect larvae growing inside them which can infect the drinking water and cause many digestive problems and infections.

In her post, she wrote that uncovered, unwashed pots and pots not emptied and dried properly can cause germs in the water stored in them which can lead to waterborne diseases.

She suggests cleaning the matka with a fresh cloth and rinsing it every day and dry it before refilling. According to her the other method to clean matka is to just empty it and rinse it with fresh water.

She also advises to make sure to cover the matka and always fill it with clean and filtered water. She further, mentioned that using earthen pot is best for health but maintain hygiene is also a mandatory thing to do.
