Heatwave: What to do if someone has a heat stroke and faints? Here are some quick tips

Temperatures across India are soaring and heat wave alerts have been declared in many states. While temperatures rise, it is important to be safe from the heat. Our work-life or personal life schedule may not allow us to be seated at home, but we can definitely take precautions and avoid getting a heat stroke.

In a scenario where someone around you has suffered a heat stroke, then here is a list of things you can do to help the other person.

What to do is someone suffers a heat stroke?

Shift to a cooler spot

If a person has suffered heat stroke and has fainted, get the person out of the heat and into a shaded or air-conditioned area as quickly as possible.

Make him/her drink water

Encourage the person to drink water or any coolant, if they are conscious and can swallow. Avoid giving them drinks with caffeine or alcohol, as these can worsen dehydration.

Loosen their clothing

Loosen the person's clothing to let air flow. Ensure that air passes through the clothes.

Coconut water or ORS to the rescue

If you have access, make sure the affected person gets a sip of coconut water or ORS to help hydrate better.

Elevate their legs

If possible, make the person lie down and elevate their legs to improve blood circulation.

Dab face with wet cloth

Till medical help arrives, dab the person's face with cold water, keeping them hydrated.

Stay with them

Stay with the person until help arrives. Reassure them and try to keep them as comfortable as possible.
