Taking a dip in natural lakes or ponds is definitely healing. However, some precautions should be taken to minimize any risks to yourself or others.

Swimming in the wild helps and heals; therapist shares how she dealt with anxiety

In the relentless rhythm of city life, and busy schedule, stress becomes an unwelcome companion for many of us. However, one can find solace within nature and greenery. Whether it's a stroll through a park, a moment spent by a tranquil pond, or simply gazing up at the sky, connecting with nature amidst the hustle and bustle can provide a much-needed antidote to stress and anxiety.

Healing power of swimming amidst nature

This is also backed by UK based 42 year old therapist Jenny Favell, who discovered the healing power of swimming amidst nature into wilderness back in 2020. As reported by New York Post, Favell researched therapeutic swimming, or cold water therapy, and found out various benefits of and positive impact of cold water on the body.

According to Favell, this helps curing insomnia, eases depression symptoms and menopause symptoms as per reports and studies.

Bollywood actor Vidyut Jamwal's Himalayan retreat

Bollywood actor Vidyut Jamwal too shared his pictures from his abode in the jungles and its benefits for health. Taking to Instagram he wrote:

My retreat to the Himalayan ranges - “the abode of the divine” started 14 years ago. Before I realised, it became an integral part of my life to spend 7-10 days alone- every year.

Coming into the wilderness from a life of luxury and adulation, I enjoy finding my solitude and realising the importance of knowing “Who I am Not“ which is the first step of knowing “WHO AM I “as well as fending for myself in the quiet luxuries provided by nature.

I am most comfortable outside my comfort zone and
I tune into the natural frequency of nature, and I imagine myself as the satellite dish antenna- receiving & emitting vibrations of happiness and love.

I vibrate at the frequency of COMPASSION.
I vibrate at the frequency of DETERMINATION.
I vibrate at the frequency of ACHIEVEMENT.
I vibrate at the frequency of ACTION.

It is here that I create the energy I want to surround myself with and come back home, ready to experience a new chapter in my life - Reborn.

Also would love to share that this solitude is inconceivable to the mind, but experiential only when in awareness.

Essential precautions to take while swimming in a natural water body:

Swimming in natural ponds and lakes can be a refreshing and enjoyable experience, but it's essential to take precautions to ensure safety:

Check water quality: Before swimming, ensure that the water is safe for swimming.

Know the area: Familiarize yourself with the swimming area beforehand. Be aware of any underwater hazards such as rocks, submerged branches, or sudden drop-offs.

Supervise children: Always supervise children closely while swimming in natural bodies of water. Ensure they wear properly fitted life jackets.

Avoid diving: Refrain from diving into natural ponds or lakes unless you are certain of the water depth and clarity.

Watch for currents: Be cautious of currents, especially in rivers or larger lakes. Strong currents can quickly tire swimmers and pose a drowning risk.

Swim with a buddy: Whenever possible, swim with a companion or a local guide or an expert who knows the area well.

Respect wildlife: Be mindful of wildlife that may inhabit the water body. Avoid disturbing animals and their habitats while swimming.

Protect against sun exposure: Wear sunscreen and protective clothing to guard against sunburn while swimming outdoors. Reapply sunscreen regularly, especially after swimming.

Know emergency procedures: Familiarize yourself with emergency procedures for the area, including how to call for help and the location of nearby medical facilities.

Also watch: Master your fitness goals with Shilpa Shetty's yoga routine for flexibility and core strengthening
