Some useful steps you can take to minimise the effects of air pollution

Pollution is very likely to hit the cities post Diwali. Let’s have a look at some precautionary steps to minimise the adverse effects of air pollution on our lungs:

  • Stay away from friends and family who smoke. Smokers try to step outside to avoid indoor pollution
  • Avoid stepping out early in the morning or late evening as the air at that time is heavier and more polluted. Try to exercise indoors or between 10 am and 3 pm if you want to step out for it.
  • Even though people have stopped wearing masks these days, it is advised to wear a mask preferably N95 whenever stepping out. Wear masks even indoors while dusting or cleaning.
  • Heavy curtains, carpets and door mats should be vacuumed or cleaned at least every 2-3 months so that they don't collect dust or polluted air.
  • Include more citrus fruits and food rich in antioxidants. Proper nutrition can minimise the effects of pollution on your lungs.
  • Avoid lighting incense sticks or mosquito coils inside your homes. Try to plant more and more commonly available air purifying indoor plants like snake plant, bamboo or money plant.
