JN.1 Covid 19: As cases surge, know what precautions to take while traveling this winter season

India witnesses a surge in Covid-19 cases which are being linked to its sub-variant JN.1. Ex-WHO scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan emphasizes preparedness, urging use of masks, staying home in case of flu symptoms, and vigilance to curb spread.

JN.1 Covid 19: As cases surge, know what precautions to take while traveling this winter season

Cases of Covid 19's sub variant JN.1 has been rapidly increasing in India due to the festivities and holiday season. If you too are planning to travel during this festive season, you must take precautions and stay safe.

Precautions

Preventive measures encompass regular hand sanitization, the utilization of triple masks, and adherence to social distancing. Additionally, individuals may contemplate receiving booster shots to enhance their protection against the virus.

All about the COVID-19 new variant

The new variant is known as Covid JN.1. This variant is a descendant of the previous strain BA.2.86 or Pirola. The case was first detected in the US in September this year and then later seven cases were found in China. Even though BA.2.86 and JN.1 sound very different because of the way variants are named, the only difference between them is of a spike protein.

What are the symptoms?

Some common symptoms of the new variant of Covid-19 are fever, runny nose, headache, and sore throat. Other symptoms are mild upper respiratory problems, which typically improve within four or five days.

However, there is no need to panic as the symptoms are similar to viral flu, and with precautions you can avoid catching the new variant of Covid-19. According to a doctor who spoke to ANI, there will not be a new wave of Covid-19, "I don't think I would be wise enough to say that the new wave of COVID is coming. It may just pass away like any other viral infection. Let's keep a watch and keep our fingers crossed."
