A new variant of Covid-19 has emerged, and it is more infectious than the previous variants. Scientists are worried about the new strain -JN.1 strain of coronavirus that was recently found in a patient in Kerala. The 79-year-old woman had mild symptoms of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and has since then recovered.

All about the COVID-19 new variant

The new variant is known as Covid JN.1. This variant is a descendant of the previous strain BA.2.86 or Pirola. The case was first detected in the US in September this year and then later seven cases were found in China. Even though BA.2.86 and JN.1 sound very different because of the way variants are named, the only difference between them is of a spike protein.

What are the symptoms?

Some common symptoms of the new variant of Covid-19 are fever, runny nose, headache, and sore throat. Other symptoms are mild upper respiratory problems, which typically improve within four or five days.

However, there is no need to panic as the symptoms are similar to viral flu, and with precautions you can avoid catching the new variant of Covid-19. According to a doctor who spoke to ANI, there will not be a new wave of Covid-19, "I don't think I would be wise enough to say that the new wave of COVID is coming. It may just pass away like any other viral infection. Let's keep a watch and keep our fingers crossed."
