GOQii 'India Fit Report 2024' says that Indian women are unhealthier than men and most Indians continue to suffer from stress. Alarming results raise concern.

Indian women unhealthier than their male counterparts, unhealthiest people in this city: GOQii report

A new report has revealed that Indian men are healthier than women. According to the new GOQii 'India Fit Report 2024', 59 percent of women have been categorized as unhealthy compared to 40 percent of men. Apart from this, Patna has emerged as the unhealthiest city in India, where 55% people reported being unhealthy. The highest number of healthy people are in Surat with 63% and in Jaipur 61%. The report also states that in 2023, 23% of the population of Chandigarh was suffering from high BP.

Stress is the main reason

The report also added that Indians continue to be victims of stress which affects their health and well being. According to the report, 26 percent of Indians are stressed due to work pressure while financial instability is the cause of stress for 17 percent Indian population. The percentage of stress among women has risen drastically from being 25 percent in 2021 to an alarming 35 percent in 2023.

Indians suffer from lifestyle diseases

The report also mentions that 23 percent of Indians suffer from lifestyle diseases like High blood pressure with 23% of the population dealing with it.

The report indicates that over the past 3 years four most prevalent diseases Indians have been battling are diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and thyroid. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) these lifestyle diseases lead to almost 80 percent of all deaths globally.

5 key points on how to maintain a healthier life

Balanced Diet: Consuming a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats is essential for overall health. Aim to eat a variety of nutrient-dense foods to ensure you get essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Limit intake of processed foods, sugary snacks, and excessive amounts of saturated fats and sodium.

Regular Exercise: Regular physical activity is crucial for maintaining a healthy weight, strengthening muscles and bones, and reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise every day.

Quality sleep: Quality sleep is essential for physical and mental health. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night to allow your body to rest, repair, and recharge. Create a sleep-friendly environment by keeping your bedroom dark, quiet, and comfortable.

Stress Management: Chronic stress can negatively impact your health and well-being. Practice stress-reduction techniques such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga. Engage in activities you enjoy, spend time outdoors, and prioritize self-care to maintain emotional balance and resilience.

Regular Health Check-ups: Regular health check-ups and screenings are essential for early detection and prevention of health problems. Be proactive about managing any existing health conditions and follow your healthcare provider's recommendations for treatment and lifestyle modifications.
