According to research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, gluten does not have a negative impact on Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms. Researchers also found that the symptoms of gluten reaction may vary from person to person depending on their blood type and comorbidities.

For the study, the team examined more than 100 participants with moderate to severe IBS over a period of nine months. They tracked their gluten intake and the FODMAP content of their diet, a measure of sugars that are difficult for the small intestine to absorb.

As per the findings, higher FODMAP content was linked with more severe IBS symptoms compared to gluten. There's no significant link between eating gluten and experiencing symptoms of IBS, study author's concluded.
