Does gum disease affect your mental health? This study has a few things to say

According to researchers from the University of Birmingham, developing gum disease and oral health issues can increase a person’s risk of mental health problems such as anxiety or depression by 37 percent. The study was published in the BMJ Open Journal.

For the study, researchers examined 64,379 patients with a medical history of gum disease for a period of 3 years. These patients’ records were then compared to those of 251,161 patients who had no record of gum disease.

As per the findings, those patients with a recorded history of gum disease were more likely to be diagnosed with mental health problems, compared to those not suffering from any oral health issues.
