Do strawberries help in preventing dementia? Know what research says

Research suggests that regular consumption of strawberries may have potential benefits for cognitive health, including the prevention of memory loss or dementia.

According to researchers from the University of Cincinnati, consuming strawberries on a daily basis may potentially lower the risk of dementia in specific individuals in their middle age. Published in the journal Nutrients, the study was conducted on patients aged between 50 to 65. Half of them were given supplements equivalent of one cup of whole strawberries and the rest were given placebo. The individuals who consumed strawberry powder exhibited enhanced performance in a word-list learning test and experienced a notable decrease in depressive symptoms, according to the findings.

Robert Krikorian, a professor emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the UC College of Medicine, conducted research on the health effects of blueberry consumption. He stated, "Both strawberries and blueberries contain anthocyanins, antioxidants that have been linked to various health benefits of berries, including improvements in metabolism and cognition."

While these findings are promising, it's essential to note that more research is needed to fully understand the relationship between strawberries and memory health. It's always advisable to maintain a balanced diet, including a variety of fruits and vegetables, as part of a healthy lifestyle for overall well-being. Consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice on nutrition and cognitive health.
