A content creator on TikTok has claimed that pineapples are the ultimate cure for cold and flu. Jewell, who goes by @raisingreverie on TikTok says whenever someone at her home falls sick, she gives them pineapple. Not only is pineapple delicious, it’s also full of vitamins and minerals that can help. Her video has garnered 8.2 million views where she has shared the concoction, she makes with pineapple pieces to keep flu away.

Easy to make recipe shared by Jewell

Take a pineapple and cut the crown.

Thoroughly wash the outside of the pineapple.

Place the pineapple in a solution of water and vinegar in the sink to clean the fruit properly.

Take a pot of water and bring it to a boil.

Chop the pineapple and put it in the pot.

Once the pineapple is put into the boiling water, wait for the water to return to a boil and then turn off the heat.

Let the pineapple steep for a few minutes before pouring the pineapple water through a sieve into a jug, leaving any pineapple pieces out.

Add some honey for extra sweetness and mix.

Serve hot for a sore throat, or cold for a refreshing immunity boost.

However, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NIH) there are not enough trusted sources to prove this, though pineapples indeed are high in vitamin C and improve immune health.

      Health benfits of pineapple:

Vitamin C Content: Pineapple is rich in vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that plays a crucial role in supporting the immune system. Vitamin C helps stimulate the production of white blood cells, which are essential for fighting infections.

Antioxidant Properties: Pineapple contains antioxidants, such as flavonoids and polyphenols, which help neutralize free radicals in the body. Free radicals can cause oxidative stress, which may contribute to chronic diseases and weaken the immune system.

Bromelain Enzyme: Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain, which has anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating properties. Bromelain may help reduce inflammation and support immune function.

Minerals: Pineapple contains essential minerals like manganese, which is important for the activation of enzymes involved in immune function. Adequate manganese levels support the production of antibodies and the overall function of the immune system.

Digestive Health: The bromelain enzyme in pineapple not only supports immune function but also aids in digestion. A healthy digestive system is essential for nutrient absorption, and proper nutrition is crucial for maintaining a strong immune system.
