Over 1500 varieties of mangoes are produced in India; know about some of the popular ones

Mango is considered the king of fruits and over 1500 varieties are found in India itself. Due to different climates, across the nation, various species of mangoes are grown in different states.

Let us tell you about some of the most popular ones and their states of origin.

  1. Also known as Hapus, Alphonsos are the most famous and expensive variants of mangoes, and are mostly produced in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
  2. Dussehri mango originated from Dussehri in Uttar Pradesh, which is now also available in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.
  3. Chausa mangoes are produced in Bihar as well as in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
  4. The parrot-shaped Totapuri mango is sourced from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
  5. Himsagar mango is popular in West Bengal and Odisha. Besides being delicious, these mangoes weigh around 250 to 300 grams each.
  6. Langda mango is produced in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.
