FSSAI purity test: Here’s how to check Turmeric adulteration at home

Turmeric is one of the most popular spices used in every Indian household. The demand for organic turmeric powder has been rising each year, but it has given birth to many unfair practices. Foods that contain artificial colours are not considered healthy.

The Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) shared a simple test to find out how turmeric powder is adulterated with artificial colours to save you from such adulteration practices.

Here’s how to detect adulteration in Turmeric powder:

Take two glasses of water and add a small quantity of turmeric. The unadulterated sample will turn light yellow, with the turmeric settling down at the bottom. On the other hand, the colour of the solution with adulterated turmeric will change into strong, bright yellow.
