Flood dining? Adversity turns into opportunity for restaurant in Thailand

After a deadly pandemic that prompted endless shutdowns, restaurant owner Titiporn Jutimanon was certain that a bout of flood would lead to the death of his riverside eatery.

But instead of shutting operations, Titiporn’s eatery remained open for diners who are embracing a new thrill of dining amid knee-deep waters. Located north of Bangkok in Nonthaburi, the Chao Phraya Antique Cafe is going viral on social media with customers loving its unique ‘flood dining’ experience.

Barbequed pork, beautiful sunset views, the thrill of getting wet and avoiding the rush of water set off by boats rowing nearby have all helped the eatery turn a crisis into an opportunity.

In recent weeks, flooding of the Chao Phraya River that runs through Bangkok has affected 30 northern and central provinces. For Titiporn’s customers, however, it’s all a part of the adventure.
