Flax seeds vs chia seeds: Which is better for health?

If you want to add a nutrient-rich seed to your diet, consider adding chia seeds and flax seeds to your diet. While flax seeds have a nutty taste, chia seeds have a gel-like consistency. If you are wondering which to add to your diet, here is how both the seeds benefit us.

Flax seed vs chia seed

Flax seeds are an excellent source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid that has anti-inflammatory properties. They are also rich in soluble and insoluble fiber, thereby promoting digestive health and helping to regulate blood sugar levels.

You can also add flax seeds containing lignans to your diet. Lignans have antioxidant properties and may contribute to heart health. Flax seeds are also good source of plant-based protein and has minerals like magnesium, phosphorus, and copper.

Chia seeds also contain ALA, providing a plant-based source of omega-3s. They are exceptionally high in soluble fiber, promoting a feeling of fullness and supporting digestive health. Chia seeds contain antioxidants which help protect cells from damage. They are also a good source of plant protein and calcium, which is essential for bone health.

Which to choose?

Both chia and flax seeds are nutritional powerhouses. If you have to pick one, look at your personal preferences, dietary requirements, and culinary preferences. You can sprinkle a handful of these on your next meal, have it in breakfast or add it to your rotis.

While chia seeds have a slightly nutty taste but when soaked they develop a gel-like texture. Flaxseeds, on the other hand, possess a nutty and earthy flavor with a slightly stronger taste compared to chia seeds. They maintain a crunchy texture even when soaked or grounded.
