Eating too many mangoes this summer? Here are 5 reasons you should stop immediately

Summer is here and it is time to eat mangoes. Nothing can be better than having a fresh bowl of mangoes or a cold glass of mango smoothie after returning from the sweltering heat. However, do you know that eating too many mangoes can harm you? Here is what happens when you overdose on these summery delights.

How eating too many mangoes can affect you

Increases blood sugar

Diabetics should avoid eating mangoes as it can cause a sudden sugar spike. Even though the fruit is mostly carbohydrates, when had in large quantities it may act as refined sugar.

Causes weight gain

Mangoes are also relatively high in sugar and calories. Consuming excessive amounts of mangoes can contribute to weight gain, especially if not balanced with physical activity.

Exposure to pesticides

If not organically grown or properly washed, mangoes may contain pesticide residues. Consuming too many mangoes without ensuring proper washing and sourcing could increase exposure to these harmful chemicals.

Diarrhoea

Having excess mangoes can cause diarrhoea as it contains a high amount of fibre and excess consumption of fibrous fruits. Hence, make sure to have mangoes in limited quantity.

Can cause tooth decay

Like many fruits, mangoes contain natural sugars that can contribute to tooth decay if consumed excessively, especially if proper dental hygiene practices are not followed.

Benefits of eating mangoes

Mangoes are packed with essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin K, potassium, and folate. These nutrients support overall health and well-being.

The fruit is also rich in antioxidants which help protect cells from oxidative stress and reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
