Plant-based and lab-grown meat are two different things and it varies in taste too.

Artificial meat approved for sale in US; know the difference between plant-based and lab-grown meat

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has given approval to two companies to sell lab-grown meat. With this, the US has become the second country to allow lab-grown meat for sale.

USDA has given approval to Upside Foods and Good Meat. Uma Valeti, CEO and founder of Upside Foods in a statement said, "This approval will fundamentally change how meat makes it to our table."

Valeti further said, "It's a giant step forward towards a more sustainable future -- one that preserves choice and life."

It is worth taking a note that plant-based meat has also been witnessing a major surge in the market. So, let's understand the difference between plant-based and lab-grown meat.

What is the difference between lab-grown meat and plant-based meat?

Lab-grown meat is made by harvesting cells from an animal or a fertilized egg and then it is kept in deep freezer for decades. Later, they are cultivated in steel tanks where they are given nutrients that are similar to what animals would eat. Moreover, lab-grown meat provides humans with animal protein.

Whereas, plant-based meat is a replication of meat, and it tastes and feels like meat but does not provide animal protein.
