Pet rocks or stones are more affordable compared to traditional pets and are being preferred by South Koreans to combat loneliness. The Strait Times spoke to many individuals who have their own pet rock. Speaking to the media outlet, a 29-year-old woman said, "I purchased a pet stone for the first time during the pandemic. I just wanted to have something by my side while I was working remotely. It provided me a sense of companionship."

People who have pet stones tend to personify them and even put pictures of their stone pets like netizens do with animals. People also give the stones nicknames, prepare beds where they can rest, provide clothes and decorate them!

What are the benefits of having a rock as a pet?

According to a report, there are many benefits of pet rocks. They provide a sense of calm and tranquillity. The tactile sensation of holding a smooth stone, coupled with the rhythmic process of painting or decorating it, can be deeply grounding and meditative. This gives a break from stressful life.
