Paris Men's Fashion Week: Students showcase graduate collections; cigarette butts coat steals limelight

Kickstarted last week, Paris Men's Fashion Week witnessed exclusive designs from major high-end fashion brands. From Pharrell Williams's debut Louis Vuitton collection to Dior, Givenchy and Hermes showcasing their newest designs.

However, for the first time ever, the men’s schedule of Paris Fashion Week opened with BA students from Paris fashion school (Institut Français de la Mode) presenting their graduate collections.

All their looks were stunning, however, one of the major highlights was the cigarette butt coat. Designed by one of the students, Jiawei Han, the coat was made from thousands of cigarette filters that were sewn together into a fluffy cocoon.

The collection had varied range of techniques and materials, ranging from textile and wicker to latex. The program head informed that this batch of students started the curriculum during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and has evolved beautifully with extraordinary work of fashion.

Notably, the school’s MA students have been opening the women’s shows held in March, since 2021.

The Paris Men's Fashion Week officially ended on Sunday but the designs are still making headlines.
