Fabrics you MUST avoid to stay cool this summer!

As much as we love the summer sunshine, it also leads to copious amounts of sweat and itching sometimes. The scorching heat is synonymous with sweating and this is why your garments in summer need to be picked mindfully.

Many times, we might be picking a cute look but in the wrong fabric. Wearing certain materials in the summer can cause rashes, itchiness and other skin problems. Stick to breathable cotton and linens and steer clear of these fabrics that we are here to tell you about.

SATIN

While shiny satins allure many, do not wear silk or satin clothes during the day in summers. Unless you want to show off sweaty patches all over your outfit, keep your satin tops and dresses for evening engagements only, if at all you feel the urge to wear them.

LEATHER

The slick punk rocker appeal of vinyl and leather can’t be denied but summer is not the season for such fabrics. Store your leather boots or jackets in a dark, dry spot away from the sunlight and bring them back out when the weather gods take pity on us mortals and bring back the colder months.

SUEDE

A more delicate cousin of leather, suede is another material that is just too heavy for Indian summers. Reserve your smooth suede for winter or at least avoid your suede items during the peak summer months.

POLYESTER

It doesn’t wrinkle and demands little care but polyester is a terrible choice for summer. The synthetic material does not absorb sweat and may give you rashes and show sweat stains.

VELVET

Thick, heavy and just too luxurious, velvet is not a material made for Indian summer. Velvet can trap too much heat and make you feel hotter than it actually is.

LACE

Don’t let its appearance deceive you. Lace fabrics look airy but the polyester nets have a tendency to stick to your skin. Since most lace garments use synthetic lace, it is best to avoid lace in the hotter months.

DENIM

Yes, cropped denim shorts look cute any day but you’d be much better off wearing something lighter in the heat. A durable and heavyweight fabric, denim isn’t exactly the summer best friend your body needs. Leave those skinny jeans for a cooler day!

If you still want to wear these fabrics, at least wear them in a style that lets your skin breathe and keeps your body cool.
