Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Virat Kohli washed away 18 years of hurt and disappointment on a dream Tuesday night, conquering Punjab Kings by six runs to lift their maiden Indian Premier League title at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.&nbsp;
The final turned out to be a battle of nerves and RCB certainly channelled their years of disappointment and pain to come back roaring in the contest and seal a commanding victory.
A partisan crowd did not give up on RCB even as they struggled to find the flourish with the bat and ended up posting a total of 190/9 with superstar Kohli making a laborious 35-ball 43.
At the break, RCB&rsquo;s total did not look enough but a persistent effort from their bowlers made the scoreboard pressure ultimately work in their favour.
With 29 needed off the final over, RCB's win was sealed when Josh Hazlewood bowled the second dot ball on the trot. Shashank Singh struck a valiant 61 not out off 30 balls (3x4s, 6x6s), but his effort came far too late as Punjab Kings ended at 184 for seven.
Josh Hazlewood provided the first breakthrough, Krunal Pandya bowled a dream spell of 4-0-17-2 in a summit clash but it was Romario Shepherd&rsquo;s dismissal of PBKS&rsquo; gun captain Shreyas Iyer that finally indicated which way the game was headed.
All it took was an innocuous delivery outside off to see the back of the most dangerous batter in the final as Iyer, coming off a terrific knock in Qualifier 2, edged it behind off Shepherd and walked back with his head dropped.
Josh Inglis (39 off 23 balls, 1x4s, 4x6s) made every opportunity count when it came to hitting towards midwicket but Pandya had him caught at long-on in the 13th over.
Thereafter, every dot ball drew appreciation from fans and they were at their loudest when RCB legend AB de Villiers appeared on the big screen on the ground, and also when PBKS were mathematically knocked out.
Desperate to strike early, RCB needed something special and Phil Salt produced a brilliant effort in the deep when Priyansh Arya (24) lifted the ball off Hazlewood in the fifth over.
Salt made a dash from deep square leg to his right and took the catch reverse cupped and threw the ball up in the air as he hurtled past the ropes. He recovered quickly to get inside the field and take a stunning catch.
Punjab&rsquo;s impact sub Prabhsimran Singh (26 off 22 balls) succumbed to pressure even as his side made 52/1 in the powerplay.
Bhuvneshwar shut the doors on Punjab when he dismissed Nehal Wadhera (15) and Marcus Stoinis (6) in a span of three deliveries in the 17th over and thereon, RCB&rsquo;s triumph was only a formality.
Earlier, RCB huffed and puffed to 190 for nine after their batters failed to press matters on what remained a conducive wicket.
While RCB were not only a tad conservative in the big final, luck also did not favour the fourth-time finalists chasing their maiden trophy a great deal, as each of their batters perished after getting a start.

The lanky Jamieson a huge impact, not only finding the right lengths and variations to keep a lid on the batters but also accounting for three key batters to push RCB back further.
In the second over, after Salt smacked him for a four over mid-on, he had the RCB opener caught off Iyer and in the 11th, after Rajat Patidar hit him for a six over mid-off, Jamieson bowled a superb slow yorker which pinned the batter in front of the wickets.
Jamieson&rsquo;s numbers were spoiled to some extent in the 17th over when Jitesh Sharma (24 off 10 balls, 2x4s, 2x6s) clobbered a couple of sixes and Livingstone one to collect 23 off it.
But once again, Jamieson ended it by trapping Livingstone leg-before off a full toss.

"It is really special for me, for Virat Kohli, and all the fans. Those who have supported for years, they all deserve it. It's a great opportunity for me and a great learning for me to captain Kohli, he deserves it more than anyone else," Patidar said after the final at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
Patidar felt that 190 was a par score on a strip which was on the slower side.
"After the Qualifier, we thought that we can go through. I think 190 was a good score on this track as it was a bit slow. Bowlers executing their plans was tremendous to watch."&nbsp;

11.20 pm. The chiselled, sweat-glistened face of Virat Kohli was filled with impatience. The maiden IPL title for him and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru was a good over away.
He was desperate for that famous Kohli run &mdash; fingers pointed heavenwards with a wide grin plastered across the face.
11.25 pm: Josh Hazlewood successfully defended 29 runs in the 20th over. But all Kohli could do was to hide his face in his palms with tear-filled eyes and baulk. Teammates soon enveloped him as their endearing No. 18 met his destiny after 18 years.
Was it the credit-rolling moment of an extraordinary relationship between a player and franchise that lasted 18 years through mind boggling highs and heartbreaking lows? It&rsquo;s a weird thought at this moment of personal and collective glory. But it could not be avoided as the journey came to its much-desired full circle.
The first chapter of the Kohli and the RCB series began in 2008, and it has transformed into a long-drawn TV drama like the &lsquo;Young and Restless".
Kohli was young and restless 18 years back &mdash; an irreverent, chubby South Delhi dandy who just wanted to take on the whole wide world in pursuit of victory.
An anomaly in the dressing room that then contained Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Jacques Kallis etc..
But RCB trusted Kohli, and their former owner Vijay Mallya, a horse lover, let him be his own and allowed him time to mature into a thoroughbred.
Perhaps, he fitted seamlessly into the upmarket and bold image of the franchise. It was a soap opera.
But the relationship took a new turn in 2011. The Royal Challengers trusted a 22-year-old with the leadership role.
Many 22-year-olds could have wilted in the high-pressure environment, but not this 22-year-old.
An innate love for camera, headlines, and the will to fight and learn helped him embrace the job wholeheartedly.
Kohli was in the hot seat for 12 years and 143 matches, and he remained firm there too even when the team failed to bag a trophy.
Gradually, he established a close connection with Bengalureans. His charisma was a big factor in turning the city dwellers into RCB faithfuls.
It wasn&rsquo;t an instant link like the one Chennai established with MS Dhoni, but it was more slow brewing like the maturing of a top of the line wine.
That was partially because Dhoni came to the Super Kings as India&rsquo;s T20 World Cup 2007 winning captain, and he was already a national icon, a success symbol of youthfulness.
Kohli too had led India to the 2008 U19 World Cup by the time the inaugural season of the IPL began, but the Indian cricketing world was not yet ready to accept Kohli as a young prodigy.
It took them some time to see the genius of Kohli, but even then Kohli was famous but was not loved. However, he remained a persuasive conversational centrepiece.
Kohli was at the forefront of his club&rsquo;s PR pushes, its face on the social media, he reiterated the inner synergy he feels to the red and gold jersey.
In fact, Kohli was a magnificent distraction for RCB fans from their lack of trophy triumph until now.
A driven individual, it does not need any second guessing to realise that Kohli felt the hurt seeing a bare cupboard even as two rival Southern clubs added trophies.
The Super Kings marched to a record five titles and Sunrisers Hyderabad and Deccan Chargers jointly bagged two.
Mumbai Indians under his revered comrade Rohit Sharma too clinched five titles.
But Kohli never showed the angst in public or never thought of severing his ties with RCB. In fact, he always underlined his closeness to the outfit.
&ldquo;In terms of desires, everything is okay. But being with RCB is never going to go away. For me, what&rsquo;s more valuable is the relationship and the mutual respect that has been created over so many years.
&ldquo;The love that I have received from the fans, I don&rsquo;t think any silverware or any trophy can come close to that,&rdquo; Kohli had told RCB podcast last month.
But he would have dreamt of holding that trophy aloft one day, and it came on a sweat-drenched Ahmedabad night.
The finest showman of this decade of cricket, the lead guitarist of the IPL and T20s stood crowned. Nothing else mattered more on this emotional moment.&nbsp;

Virat Kohli's nearly two-decade long agonising wait to lay hands on an IPL Trophy with Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be up against Shreyas Iyer's resolve to make first-time winners out of the tenacious Punjab Kings when the 18th season finale of the world's biggest T20 league unfolds at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
The summit could witness a thousands of fans donning jersey No.18 to support Kohli, who is in an IPL final for a fourth time overall.
The sentiments of the fans would indeed run high given it will be Kohli's last appearance on the cricket field for a while, having recently retired from Test cricket and India's next ODI assignment a few months away.
Parting ways with issues that plagued their previous campaigns, RCB have been clinical all the way through, coming into the final with an eight-wicket hammering of Punjab in a one-sided Qualifier 1.
Kohli (614 runs) has gone about his business like every other year, piling up runs at the top and continuing to lay platforms but where it has made the difference for RCB is that there's a lot more substance to their batting beyond the superstar.
Kohli has not been the only one to carry the focus and attention this year, rather he has quietly gone about his business in fortifying for RCB.
Phil Salt is a perfect foil for the Indian superstar who goes all-out in his attack, while Mayank Agarwal, skipper Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma are the trusted lieutenants of that batting line-up.
Since he has missed RCB's last two games, it remains to be seen if Tim David is fit for this contest as he forms a vital death overs batting pair with another burly hitter in Romario Shepherd.
Like Kohli in their batting, the calm and composed Josh Hazlewood (21 wickets) has been at the helm of RCB's rise and the fourth highest wicket-taker and the Australian would want to add more to move up the ladder in one last game.
On their part, stung by that crushing defeat in their homeground at Mullanpur, Iyer's Kings showed no scars from that defeat as they knocked out five-time winners Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 to reach their first final after 11 years.
It's only fitting that PBKS and RCB, who finished at the top two positions respectively after a gruelling 70-match league round, have a crack at the trophy which has eluded them from the time the competition began.
Perennial finishers in the second half of the 10-team points table, Punjab Kings have staged a sensational turnaround with two dogged personalities in captain Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting at the helm.
For Iyer (603 runs), a second consecutive appearance in an IPL final after winning it last year with Kolkata Knight Riders speaks volumes about his capabilities as a leader who marshals his troops as good as any other in the format.
It is, therefore, not a surprise to see Iyer being the only cricketer in the 18-year history of the tournament to have led three different teams in IPL finals, with Delhi Capitals being the third.
Iyer's perseverance is not the only quality that stands out for the 30-year-old Punjab captain but also the fact that he remains as hungry to win this IPL as he was when he began the journey with the franchise a few months ago.
In Prabhsimran Singh, Josh Inglis, Priyansh Arya and Shashank Singh, Iyer has adequate support to hold his fort staunchly and even lead aggressive attacks on the opposition camp.
Punjab's bowling, without Marcus Jansen, did look a little depleted but having managed to keep a lid on Mumbai Indians' for the entirely of an innings on a batting-friendly wicket tells that there is more to it than what has been perceived.
Yuzvendra Chahal is still dealing with a hand injury and was not at his absolute best in the Qualifier 2 but Punjab would need him to fire against his former franchise.
While there are no predictions of rains impacting the contest, an additional hour to the playtime extending the duration to 120 minutes and having a reserve day in the final are the measures in place to ensure the contest is completed.

Spin great Harbhajan Singh has thrown his weight behind wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav to start in India&rsquo;s playing XI for the first Test against England alongside Ravindra Jadeja.
The series opener begins at Leeds on June 20. Traditionally, the surface at Leeds aids the pacers more than the spinners.
"India should look to play Kuldeep Yadav. Of course, Jadeja will bowl with him. So, two spinners with three seamers would be the kind of perfect match for this game," Harbhajan told PTI Videos on Monday.
The turbanator termed the left-arm wrist spinner as a potential match-winner irrespective of the conditions.
&ldquo;Let&rsquo;s see if conditions will change or favour the spinners. But even if it doesn&rsquo;t, I think these are two capable bowlers who can take wickets on any wicket,&rdquo; he said.
Drawing on his own experience, Harbhajan recalled India's bold decision to field two spinners at Headingley in 2002, when he and Anil Kumble bagged 11 wickets between them on a green top.
&ldquo;That was a very unique decision at that point of time. The pitch was as green as we are standing on this grass... But the management decided we&rsquo;ll go with two spinners and two fast bowlers and Sanjay Bangar will bowl as well.
&ldquo;We went with five best bowlers who can pick wickets. That&rsquo;s what matters in the end. You have to back those bowlers who can pick wickets in any conditions or any kind of wicket&rdquo;, he said.
With Shardul Thakur scoring a century in the intra-squad warm-up and taking wickets, Harbhajan believes he holds the edge over Nitish Reddy for the fast bowling all-rounder's slot.
&ldquo;India needs a bowler who can bat a bit. India have got a batting till No. 7, and at No. 8, you need to see who can bowl and get those wickets for you and bat a bit. Not someone who bats and bowls a little bit.&rdquo; &ldquo;That&rsquo;s where Shardul will have an edge on Nitish Reddy in my view. Nitish is a proper batsman who can definitely bowl. But we have not seen him bowling in the IPL much&hellip; "Gautam (Gambhir) is there. He is a very capable coach. And I am sure he will take the right decision.&rdquo; he added.
Harbhajan also weighed in on the much-talked-about exclusion of Sarfaraz Khan from the Test squad.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s very unfortunate... I was a bit shocked not seeing his name in the squad. I&rsquo;m sure he will come back strong. He has got that will to make a comeback&hellip;All I can say is, don&rsquo;t be disheartened, you will get your due, if not today, then tomorrow&hellip;Look at Karun Nair.
"He scored 300 runs against England and then never got too many opportunities. Now he is back in England with the team," Harbhajan added.&nbsp;

They bossed the league early. Gill, Buttler, Sudharsan, and Prasidh Krishna looked unbeatable.&nbsp; But come the playoffs? Nada. At one point top-two finish looked a mere formality, but the Titans ended third in the league.. played the eliminator and were humbled by the Mumbai Indians. &nbsp;

Sai Sudharsan fully unlocked this season. No wild swings, no drama &mdash; just smart, calculated hitting every time he stepped out. His calm-but-deadly approach paid off big as he bagged the Orange Cap with a massive 759 runs, including a ton and six fifties, averaging over 54 with a strike rate north of 156. Consistency? Off the charts. The reward? A well-earned national Test call-up for the England tour. Guy&rsquo;s not just knocking &mdash; he&rsquo;s kicking the door down.
Sunrisers Go Full Send... and Crash
Last season&rsquo;s runner-up, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), entered the tournament with one of the most formidable batting line-ups on paper. Their aggressive, all-out attacking approach made an early statement, posting a massive 286/6 against Rajasthan Royals &mdash; the second-highest total in IPL history &mdash; and later registering 278/3 against Kolkata Knight Riders, the third-highest. However, despite these explosive performances, SRH&rsquo;s campaign exposed a critical gap: the lack of a reliable Plan B with the bat. When their high-risk strategy didn&rsquo;t click, the team struggled to adapt, ultimately undermining their consistency and impact across the season.
Nothing really worked from CSK
 Change may be the only constant, but for Chennai Super Kings, embracing it came a little too late.&nbsp; In this season, Dhoni&rsquo;s side found themselves slipping out of playoff contention earlier than they would have hoped ..However, it's not that everything bad happened for the Yellow brigade.&nbsp; 17-year-old Aravelly Avanish Mhatre showed maturity beyond his years, while Dewald Brevis brought flair and firepower in the closing stages. In the spin department, it wasn&rsquo;t the seasoned duo of R Ashwin or Ravindra Jadeja who stood out &mdash; it was 20-year-old Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad who made the biggest impact, leading the way with grit and guile.

RR &amp; KKR: Season to Forget
RR: Injuries, inconsistency, and bad calls &mdash; finished 9th. Letting go of Buttler, Ashwin, Chahal, and Boult hurt their vibe and balance.
KKR: Ajinkya Rahane tried his best, but Venkatesh Iyer flopped hard. Mid-season blues took them out quietly.
DC's High Hopes, Hard Fall Started like title favourites (5 wins in 6), then fell flat. Couldn&rsquo;t stay consistent when pressure kicked in.
Not the season for LSG&nbsp; For Rishabh Pant, the season did not go as planned. But Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram gave them substance.. and yes- let us not forget Digvesh Rathi's theatrics.

Confirming the details, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that 11 people had died in the stampede and 33 others were injured. &ldquo;A major tragedy occurred during the victory celebrations. It happened near the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the deceased. The government will provide free treatment to the injured,&rdquo; the Chief Minister stated.
Expressing grief over the incident, he added, &ldquo;11 died and 33 were injured in the stampede. This tragedy should not have happened. The government expresses deep sorrow over this incident.&rdquo;
RCB had lifted their maiden IPL trophy on Tuesday, ending an 18-year wait by defeating Punjab Kings by six wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While RCB celebrated their historic win, the stampede has cast a sombre mood over the city and its cricketing faithful.
For Punjab Kings, who reached only their second IPL final and first in 11 years, the search for a maiden title continues.

The Karnataka government on Wednesday felicitated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru team, which won their maiden IPL title, ending an 18-year wait for the coveted trophy.
Karnataka Governor Taawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar felicitated the Rajat Patidar-led team on the grand steps in front of the iconic Vidhana Soudha, the seat of state legislature and secretariat here.

In a short event, the team was felicitated with traditional Mysuru peta (opulent formal turban), shawl and garland.
Large number of people had gathered in front of Vidhana Soudha to witness the event.
The team will also be participating in an event organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Academy (KSCA) at the Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium here.
The RCB won their maiden title with a six-run victory over Punjab Kings in the final at Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
The RCB finally got to lift the trophy after finishing runners-up on three occasions previously.&nbsp;

Some cricket enthusiasts were reportedly injured and a few of them fell unconscious here on Wednesday, near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, when they gathered to attend a special felicitation for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru's maiden IPL title win.
While a lot of fans gathered for the felicitation held by the Karnataka State Cricket Association, visuals showed police shifting the injured persons and those who fell unconscious to nearby hospital.
However, there was no immediate official confirmation.
