Choudhary (54), whose standing within the BJP has steadily risen after joining the party in 2018, is the leader of the party in the Bihar legislative council and comes from the politically important Kushwaha community. He replaces Lok Sabha MP Sanjay Jaiswal at the helm of the Bihar BJP. Joshi (47) will replace Satish Poonia, an MLA from Jaipur's Amber constituency, and the appointment comes close on the heels of veteran Rajasthan BJP leader Gulab Chand Kataria being eased out of active politics following his appointment as Assam governor.
A Brahmin face, Joshi is a second time MP from Chittorgarh Lok Sabha seat.

Had the police and fire services not attended to the emergency immediately, Garud said, more occupants of the building would have died.
The IPS officer, who spent two hours at the accident site, oversaw the rescue of a woman. Five rescued tenants are undergoing treatment in hospital.
Meanwhile, police booked a case under Section 174 of CrPC (police must enquire and report on the circumstances of death) and are in the process of taking an expert opinion to ascertain the cause of the old building&rsquo;s collapse.
According to Garud, another building is also being constructed beside the collapsed one.

Gill used to display weapons in pictures and videos on social media without having an arms licence. An FIR against him has been registered under IPC Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), the DSP added.
Officials said their investigation has revealed that Gill was also involved in the Ajnala incident and Ajnala police will separately take action against him.

According to an order, "the curbs on mobile internet services have been extended in Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts in the interest of public safety, to prevent any incitement to violence and to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order"

The Punjab government Thursday extended the suspension of mobile internet and SMS services in Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts till Friday noon while lifting the curbs in Moga, Sangrur, Ajnala sub-division in Amritsar and a few areas in Mohali.
Mobile internet services in the rest of Punjab resumed on March 21.
According to an order issued on Thursday by the state home affairs department and justice, the curbs on mobile internet services have been extended in Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts "in the interest of public safety, to prevent any incitement to violence and to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order". "It is directed that all mobile internet services, all SMS services (excluding banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except the voice calls, in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab shall continue to remain suspended from March 23 (1200 hours) to March 24 (1200 hours) only in the districts Tarn Taran and Ferozepur in continuation of this office order number 1821 dated March 21," it said.
Broadband services were not suspended so that banking facilities, hospital services and other essential services are not disrupted, said the order.
The Punjab authorities last week suspended Internet and SMS services in the state following the police crackdown against elements of 'Waris Punjab De,' headed by radical preacher Amritpal Singh. The elusive preacher, however, gave the police a slip and escaped their dragnet when his cavalcade was intercepted in the Jalandhar district.
With the Khalistani leader continuing to remain untraceable, police have said that efforts were on to nab the fugitive.

&nbsp;Showing a shift in its stance, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday openly supported Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after he was sentenced to two years in jail in a defamation case and alleged a conspiracy was being hatched to "eliminate" non-BJP leaders and parties by prosecuting them.
The Congress and the AAP have in the past avoided taking each other's side on various issues.

he Congress on Thursday dubbed the conviction of Rahul Gandhi by a Surat court in a defamation case as an "infirm, erroneous and unsustainable judgement" that will be immediately challenged in a higher court and expressed hope that it will be stayed and quashed soon.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said the Gujarat trial court has given a 170-page judgement which is still subject to translation and the party is working towards filing an appeal against it in a higher court.
Singhvi said the Congress has faith in the judiciary and will seek legal recourse to the Surat court verdict and get relief, while noting that even though this judgement is "erroneous", in-built corrective measures exist within the judicial system and "we will certainly invoke them".

Terrorist groups whose names have never been heard before, claim responsibility for bloody attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. In Punjab, a man who was living in Dubai for more than 10 years, suddenly emerges, becomes the chief of a fledgling organisation, and starts talking about separating the state from India.
With suspicion growing that Pakistan's spy agency ISI has been propping up Amritpal Singh, Punjab appears to be witnessing a repeat of Islamabad's playbook already used in Kashmir, and even Myanmar.
Ever since the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir's special status in 2019, the state-turned-Union Territory has seen mushrooming of several terror organisations. But these are actually just old outfits with new names, according to authorities.
The most prominent of these is The Resistance Front, which is an off-shoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, and some fighters drawn from other established terror groups like Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Mohammad, as per intel agencies. Since 2020, TRF has been taking responsibility for many attacks, with other groups conspicuously silent.
Some of the other rechristened outfits are the People's Anti-Fascist Front, Jammu &amp; Kashmir Ghaznavi Force, Kashmir Tigers, and Kashmir Janbaaz Force.
Giving a new identity to old terror groups is a calculated move by Pakistan. One of the biggest reasons behind this was growing pressure on the country to crack down on terror financing by the global watchdog FATF. Another reason was to try to get international support for the terrorists by trying to show them as secular, local rebels, instead of religious warriors. Thus, names like Resistance Front and Anti-Fascist Front. But channels for funding and logistics stayed the same, as per reports.
The same strategy was reportedly used by Pakistan while creating radical Rohingya outfits in Myanmar, as per intel sources.
Now, Islamabad appears to be trying to implement its strategy in Punjab.
The state already has terror outfits operational for decades. These include Babbar Khalsa - the oldest Sikh militant group since Independence - which stormed back into headlines in 2022 after a grenade attack at the police's intelligence headquarters in Mohali. Around 9 groups, with operatives in 6 countries, have been trying to cause violence and spread terror in Punjab, according to a recent assessment.
And yet, it was a relative nobody who has allegedly been propped up by Islamabad to become the face of the artificially-propagated Khalistan movement. When Amritpal came back to India from Dubai in August 2022, he mysteriously became the chief of a young organisation named Waris Punjab De, which had been created by late actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu. Beyond this, Amritpal was allegedly trying to create a new militia by the name of Anandpur Khalsa Fauj, according to sources cited in news reports.
Pakistan was removed from the FATF's grey list in October 2022. The developments in Punjab appear to be a sign of growing confidence in the Pakistan Army and ISI in this strategy of plausible deniability. More importantly, it shows Islamabad's desperation to get international attention on India-related issues - a move which has failed to get traction so far.
