Video appears to show farmers being run over by an SUV in Lakhimpur

A video of a car running over protesting farmers in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday has surfaced on social media.

The video posted by Youth Congress President Srinivas BV on Twitter is being shared widely on social media, but police have yet not verified it. Editorji cannot independently verify its authenticity

The video shows an SUV ramming through a group of protesting farmers. In the 25-second video clip, farmers are seen falling to the ground as the vehicle hits them, while others scramble to get out of the way. Another vehicle is seen tailing the SUV that rammed the farmers.

The driver of the car cannot be identified in the video. Farmers have alleged that union minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra ran his car over the farmers. Both the minister and his son have denied being present at the incident site.

Eight people, including four farmers, were killed in violence in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday. A murder case has already been filed against the Union minister's son.

The government has promised to pay a compensation of ₹ 45 lakh to the families of those who died. The injured will receive a compensation of ₹ 10 lakh. A retired judge will investigate the matter, the state government has said.
