Uttarakhand seeks central assistance for Rispana-Bindal elevated road in Dehradun

With the Delhi-Dehradun elevated expressway nearing completion, the Uttarakhand government is stepping up efforts to prepare for a significant increase in tourist inflow.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday said the State is proactively addressing planning challenges to accommodate the expected rise in visitors.

“The state government is already working actively to tackle planning challenges, keeping in mind the expected high influx of tourists once the Delhi-Dehradun elevated road becomes operational,” Dhami said.

As part of this preparedness, the State has requested financial assistance from the Central government for the construction of a 26-kilometre Rispana-Bindal Elevated Road in Dehradun.

“Keeping in view the city’s traffic issues and future requirements, a request has been made to the Centre for the 26-km Rispana-Bindal Elevated Road,” the Chief Minister said.

He further noted that the State has approached NITI Aayog for a special grant to enhance facilities for the growing floating population, especially during peak tourism periods. “In view of the rising number of tourists, a special grant has been requested from NITI Aayog to provide better facilities for the floating population,” Dhami stated.

Highlighting broader achievements of the government, he added, “The state is progressing towards excellence in every sector. We secured the top position in the SDG index. We were the first state to implement the Gross Environmental Product (GEP). We also became the first courageous state to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).”

Dhami also said the State has reclaimed over 6,500 acres of land from encroachment and is continuously embracing innovative models for sustainable development. “We have freed more than 6,500 acres of land from encroachment. New innovations in development are being regularly adopted across the State,” he added.
