Uttarakhand CM Dhami orders action against illegal foreign nationals, urges police to be tough on crime

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has issued strong directives to the police department to intensify operations against foreign nationals residing illegally in the state using fake documents such as forged Aadhaar cards, as per an official statement.

He also ordered strict action against individuals assisting in the creation of these fake documents. Emphasising the need to combat drug-related crime, CM Dhami instructed the police to take firm action against drug mafias, underlining that maintaining public trust must remain a top priority.

“The Uttarakhand Police must uphold a friendly approach towards the public while ensuring a sense of fear among criminals,” the Chief Minister stated, adding that while the state is regarded as peaceful, the police must stay vigilant to prevent criminal elements from misusing its image.

During a late-night state-level police seminar held at the Police Headquarters in Dehradun, CM Dhami conducted a comprehensive review of the department’s performance in a meeting that lasted over three hours, attended by the Director General of Police and senior officers, including SSPs and SPs.

He directed all SSPs and SPs to conduct regular public hearings at police stations to ensure swift justice for citizens. Reviewing traffic and parking arrangements for Kainchi Dham with the Nainital SSP, CM Dhami instructed the creation of a helipad within 10 days and announced his plan to personally inspect the site afterward. He also called for the swift submission of proposals for parking and tourism-related development projects.

Raising concern over delays in registering FIRs related to cybercrime, the Chief Minister sought a report on the current status of such cases and directed immediate action and public awareness campaigns on cyber safety. He further instructed the DGP to take swift and strict disciplinary measures against police personnel involved in any illegal activities, including land disputes.

To support law enforcement officers, the Chief Minister called for the development of residential facilities near police stations and expedited modernization efforts. He requested a detailed report on the current condition of CCTV installations, particularly in Dehradun, and asked for a statewide assessment of CCTV needs.

He also instructed the Home Secretary and DGP to liaise with the central government to expedite the establishment of a proposed forensic laboratory in Udham Singh Nagar. Additionally, CM Dhami reviewed the progress of police stations adopted by SSPs and SPs and called for regular inspections to ensure continuous improvements.

The Chief Minister also ordered an immediate meeting with the Transport Department to facilitate temporary parking and launch a shuttle service in Nainital. He emphasized the need to implement a model traffic and parking system that could be replicated in other states.

He further directed the collection of passenger data during the tourist season and Char Dham Yatra for informed policy decisions and planning. CM Dhami stressed the installation of digital display boards and the use of SMS alerts to provide real-time traffic updates on major routes, including those leading to Char Dham.

Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, DGP Deepam Seth, and senior police officials from across the state attended the meeting.
