Uttarakhand CM Dhami launches five mobile medical units for rural health access

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took a major step towards improving healthcare access in remote regions by launching five fully equipped Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) on Tuesday.

These units are designed to ensure the availability of essential healthcare services in areas with limited medical infrastructure. CM Dhami highlighted that the MMUs will be operational six days a week, offering diagnostic and treatment facilities in alignment with the state's 'Healthy Uttarakhand, Prosperous Uttarakhand' mission.

"These MMUs will help provide primary health services in remote areas of the state," he said.

The MMUs will be operated by Common Service Centres (CSC) and funded by the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The units will be in operation for three years, with two in Haridwar, two in Udham Singh Nagar, and one in Tehri Garhwal.

Notably, one of these MMUs is dedicated solely to women’s health, staffed entirely by female healthcare professionals and designed to address the unique health needs of women in underserved areas.

Earlier the same day, CM Dhami flagged off the 'Doctor Aapke Dwar' service, aimed at providing medical assistance directly to residents' doorsteps. This initiative is part of his government’s continued efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the state.

In another significant development, on Monday, CM Dhami inaugurated the renovated ice rink at Maharana Pratap Sports College in Dehradun. He described the revitalized rink as an important milestone for Uttarakhand and India as a whole, underscoring the state’s commitment to becoming a sports hub.

"South-East Asian Winter Games were held in this ice skating rink built in 2011, in which players from many countries like India, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, and Sri Lanka participated. Later, no attention was paid to this rink, which was why it was closed, but our government decided to restart it to establish Uttarakhand as a sports land," he said.

He further emphasized the resolve to revive the rink, stating, "We had resolved that even if we have to call engineers from abroad, we will restart this ice skating rink, and we worked firmly in this direction and were successful."

The CM also announced the installation of a 1 MW solar plant to power the rink, adding that it is likely the largest of its kind in the country and potentially South Asia.
