Uttarakhand CM Dhami extends greetings on Dalai Lama's 90th birthday

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday extended his heartfelt wishes to the Tibetan community and the people of India on the occasion of the 90th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Marking the occasion, CM Dhami also announced key development initiatives including the widening of the Buddha Temple road and the construction of a tin shed at the Tibetan crematorium.

Highlighting the spiritual legacy of the Tibetan leader, CM Dhami said, "His Holiness the Dalai Lama has shown the world the path of peace, non-violence, and compassion. His teachings are even more relevant in today's times when the world is facing many challenges."

He further emphasized the Dalai Lama's guiding philosophy, adding, "Dalai Lama himself says - 'My religion is compassion' - this idea makes him the true spiritual guru of the world."

Reaffirming Uttarakhand's enduring support for the Tibetan community, CM Dhami noted that the state—often referred to as Devbhoomi—has always extended love, respect, and security to Tibetans. He assured that his government will continue to safeguard their interests and offer every possible assistance for their cultural, educational, and social advancement.

The Chief Minister also offered his prayers for the Dalai Lama’s health and longevity, stating that he hoped His Holiness would continue to inspire future generations with his wisdom and teachings.

Meanwhile, the 90th birthday of the Dalai Lama was celebrated in Dharamshala, where he addressed a large gathering at the Tsuglagkhang temple. Reflecting on his spiritual journey, the Dalai Lama emphasized values of compassion, service, and the Bodhichitta way of life.

Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju and Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh, along with other dignitaries and well-wishers, were present at the celebration.

In his address, the Dalai Lama spoke on the essence of humanity and mutual support, saying, "As far as I am concerned, I have a human life. As humans, it is natural for us to have love in our hearts for one another and to help one another. Since we come from a country where Buddhist religion and spirituality have spread, there is a strong sense of brotherhood and sisterhood among us. The main practice is as said in Bodhisattva way of life -- considering all beings as my friends and relatives, and I always think of serving beings with the best of my abilities."
