Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday conducted an aerial survey of the disaster-hit Silai Band and Ojri Band sections of the Yamunotri road in Uttarkashi district.

Recent heavy rains in the region have washed away portions of the national highway, disrupting access to the sacred Yamunotri shrine. The Chief Minister was accompanied by BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt during the survey.

Earlier this week, the Yamunotri National Highway was reported to be blocked at two locations between Silai Band and Ojri, severely hampering travel for both residents and pilgrims.

According to Uttarkashi Police, "The Yamunotri National Highway is blocked at two places between Silai Band and Ojri due to some parts of the highway being washed out. It may take time to restore the route."

Restoration work is progressing rapidly, with construction of a valley bridge over the damaged stretch at Ojri already underway. Materials are being transported by vehicles up to Silai Band and further carried to the site. CM Dhami has instructed the concerned departments to ensure the swift completion of the bridge and full restoration of the highway, given its importance for both locals and pilgrims.

Later in the day, the Chief Minister visited Corbett National Park, where he took part in a jungle safari and reiterated the government’s focus on environmental conservation and eco-tourism. Highlighting the broader impact of the experience, he noted that it offers not just a view of natural beauty but also a deeper connection to biodiversity and the state's rich ecological heritage.

In line with the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, more than 1,000 saplings were planted during the visit, with active participation from the Forest Department, local communities, and nature enthusiasts. The Chief Minister remarked that this initiative is “not just a sapling plantation but a soulful symbol of respect for motherhood and nature.”

Acknowledging the growing popularity of jungle safari tourism in Uttarakhand, CM Dhami said that sustained government efforts have given this sector a new identity. A surge in domestic and international tourist arrivals has not only boosted the state’s tourism-driven economy but also created new avenues for livelihood and self-employment among locals.

During his visit, the Chief Minister also met with the Forest Department team and commended their work in forest and wildlife conservation. He called their dedication vital to preserving the state’s natural greenery and biodiversity.
