CM Dhami visits injured devotees after Haridwar stampede, orders inquiry

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday visited the Haridwar District Hospital to meet devotees injured in a stampede near the Mansa Devi Temple, which claimed at least six lives and left several others wounded.

The incident occurred early Sunday morning when a massive crowd had gathered at the temple premises. A stampede-like situation unfolded, leading to panic and casualties. The state government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the tragedy.

Chief Minister Dhami personally interacted with the injured and reviewed the medical arrangements at the hospital. “Upon reaching the District Hospital in Haridwar, I inquired about the well-being of the devotees injured in the accident on the Mansa Devi Temple road. I obtained detailed information from the doctors about the health condition of the injured and issued instructions to ensure better treatment,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

He added, “I pray to God for everyone's speedy recovery. The state government stands with the injured and the grieving families with utmost sensitivity.”

In response to the tragedy, the Chief Minister announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.

Speaking to reporters, Dhami said, “The injured are being treated. Some have been referred to AIIMS Rishikesh. Our priority is that they get good treatment and recover soon. A toll-free number has also been issued. Magisterial inquiry has been ordered and ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured, also announced.”

He confirmed that “six people have died in this accident” and reiterated the government's commitment to provide all necessary support to the victims and their families.

Authorities are now assessing the cause of the stampede and crowd management arrangements at the temple site as part of the ongoing inquiry.
