5 Dead, 40 injured as wooden structure collapses at Jain event in UP's Baghpat

Tragedy struck in Baraut city of Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district on Tuesday when a wooden structure collapsed during the 'Laddu Mahotsav' organized by the Jain community. The incident claimed five lives and left around 40 people injured.

District Magistrate Asmita Lal confirmed that the mishap occurred during a long-standing community tradition, which has been conducted for the past 30 years. "The wooden structure collapsed, injuring 40 people. Twenty were sent home after treatment, while another 20 are still hospitalized. Sadly, five people have died," Lal said.

Rescue operations are ongoing, and police and administration officials are closely monitoring the situation. Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya stated that 2-3 individuals are critically injured and receiving intensive care. "Teams from the police, administration, and fire department responded immediately. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment," Vijayvargiya added.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the incident, directing officials to expedite relief work and ensure proper treatment for the injured. He also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for those hurt.

The 'Laddu Mahotsav,' a beloved tradition of the Jain community in Baraut, has now been overshadowed by this tragic incident, leaving the community and local residents in shock. Further updates on the rescue operation and the condition of the injured are awaited.
