A major cause for concern for the Gehlot-led government was the numerous exam paper leaks. Between 2019 and 2022, at least eight government recruitment exams were cancelled due to paper leaks. The enraged the youth who were already distressed with unemployment woes. Given the magnitude of the defeat, it appears that the Congress lost the confidence of the young voters.
Women safety:
The BJP's campaign in the state was centred around women safety. The party portrayed the state as the worst in crime against women. PM Modi in all his rallies slammed the government over law and order. Despite Gehlot's rebuttal calling the BJP's allegations as outright lies, the charges appeared to have stuck.
Polarisation:
Even before the exit poll results were declared, CM Gehlot conceded that if BJP's tactics of polarisation worked, his party may lose the battle. Gehlot may have been right. BJP aggressively pushed its polarisation agenda, raking up the murder of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal. The party also slammed the state government for allowing Popular Front of India or PFI to hold rally in the state.
'Rewadi' race:
In the run up to the elections, the two major parties left no stone unturned in wooing the voters through the so-called 'rewadis' or freebies. Both parties made announced monetary assistance to women, subsiding gas cylinders and massive health cover packages. It was Modi's guarantees versus Congress' guarantees. The result shows it was Modi the people put their faith in.
Caste census:
Congress was betting big on the caste census plank. At every rally, Rahul Gandhi highlighted the under-representation of the backward classes in the policymaking. His famous 'only 3 OBCs out of 90 officers that run the country' appears to have failed to make a mark. Are there no takers for caste census in the state?
Road ahead for Congress:

The Congress is leading on 65 out of 199 seats in Telangana, while the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, which was ruling the state for the past 10 years, is ahead on 39 seats.
"I don't think this will have any impact on the INDIA alliance. We will be meeting at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence in Delhi. We will speak to those who know the ground reality. We will be able to comment on it after the meeting only," Pawar said.
One must accept that the current trends are in favour of the BJP, the NCP chief and Opposition stalwart added.
On the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS trailing the Congress in the southern state, Pawar said it would be too early to say anything.
"Earlier, it was assumed the BRS would retain Telangana. However, after Rahul Gandhi's rally, which received a huge response, we realised there will be change in the state," Pawar claimed.
Pawar's NCP is part of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), which was formed to take on the ruling BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
Assembly polls were held in the month of November in Chhattisgarh (7 and 17), Mizoram (7), Madhya Pradesh (17), Rajasthan (25) and Telangana (30).&nbsp;

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti has reacted to US Ambassador to Pakistan's visit to &nbsp;Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, a region India considers an integral part.
Speaking to reporters while attending the 20th Indo-US Economic Summit in New Delhi, Garcetti said, &ldquo;It's not my place to react to the US Ambassador in Pakistan but he's been before.".
Reiterating Washington&rsquo;s stance on the Kashmir issue after a near-diplomatic overlap, Garcetti asserted that New Delhi and Islamabad should address the territorial dispute bilaterally and through dialogue.
&ldquo;This is an issue that has to be resolved between India and Pakistan and not by a third party, including the US,&rdquo; Garcetti said while addressing the Kashmir issue.

Apart from her political deftness, her resemblance to her grandmother Indira Gandhi rang a bell. In May, Priyanka had said, "You are calling me the new Indiramma, then trust me. I will not make false promises." Result showed her appeal stuck with locals when they voted on November 30.
