Uttar Pradesh CM Leads Protest Against Rejection of Women's Quota Bill

Lucknow, Apr 21 (PTI) — On Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led a protest march against the defeat of the Constitution amendment bill in Parliament, highlighting the dissatisfaction among women regarding the perceived "anti-women" stance of parties such as the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress (TMC), and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

The Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, proposed to implement a women's quota and increase the number of Lok Sabha seats to 816, was rejected in the Lower House last Friday.

The 'Jan Aakrosh Malia Padyatra' commenced from Adityanath's official residence on Kalidas Marg and aims to conclude at the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

Speaking to party workers before the march, Adityanath stated, "This march symbolizes the widespread discontent in the country, particularly among women, towards the Congress, SP, TMC, and DMK’s anti-women actions."

Alongside Adityanath, his deputies Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, as well as other BJP leaders, participated in the march.

"This march is organized to condemn the failure of passing this critical amendment bill on women's reservation, an event which has severely disappointed millions of mothers and sisters nationwide," declared the state government in a statement.
