Ukraine: Relief for Indian medical graduates; can finish internship in India | Russia war

In major relief for medical students who had to flee Ukraine and return home, Indian authorities have given provisional permission for completing their internships in the country.

The National Medical Commission reportedly issued a circular on March 4 stating that foreign medical graduates with incomplete internships due to situations beyond their control, like war, the Covid-19 pandemic etc, can complete the remaining part of their internship in India.

However, the candidates will have to clear the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination for provisional registration by state medical councils for 12 months or the balance period. The NMC has instructed that medical institutes should not charge any fees from the foreign medical graduates.

Thousands of medical students have returned to India since war broke out between Russia and Ukraine.
