'Top Canadian official damaged Nijjar killing probe', India's envoy to Canada

India's High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Kumar Verma, has demanded that Ottawa produce evidence to substantiate its allegation that 'Indian agents' killed Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

In an interview with the Canadian Globe and Mail Daily published on November 4, 2023, Verma questioned the lack of specific or relevant information in the case.

He expressed concerns that the investigation has been tainted and suggested that Canada's police probe into the June murder of Nijjar has been affected by a high-level Canadian official's public statements.

'I would go a step further and say now the investigation has already been tainted', Verma told the newspaper. 'A direction has come from someone at a high level to say India or Indian agents are behind it', Verma told the publication.

On September 18, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said: 'Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the government of India' and Nijjar's death.
