Tiger Sparks Panic in Ranchi Village, Rescue Ops Initiated

Ranchi, June 25 (PTI) - Panic was sparked among the villagers of Mardu in the Silli block of Ranchi district, Jharkhand, when an adult Royal Bengal Tiger made its way into a farmer's house early Wednesday morning, as reported by a forest official.

The incident occurred near the inter-state border with West Bengal, under the jurisdiction of the Muri police outpost, approximately 65 kilometers from Jharkhand's capital, Ranchi.

A rescue team from the Palamau Tiger Reserve (PTR) has been dispatched to the site, with operations set to commence shortly, according to the official.

"The tiger entered the home of Puran Chand Mahto at around 5 a.m. after he opened his door to step outside," Ranchi Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Srikant Verma informed PTI.

Upon witnessing the big cat entering a room, Mahto quickly locked the door from the outside, Verma added.

Local villagers noted that some family members were inside the house at the time, but they managed to escape unharmed.

"The arrival of a rescue team from PTR is anticipated soon," Verma stated.

To facilitate a smooth rescue, authorities have enforced prohibitory orders within a 200-meter radius of Mahto's residence.

"We suspect the tiger may have come from neighboring West Bengal, given the proximity of the village to the inter-state border and the extensive forests in Purulia district," Verma added.
