Tibetans protest against China as world leaders arrive in Delhi for G20 summit

The Tibetan community staged protests in New Delhi, where Chinese Premier Li Qiang is set to arrive for the G20 summit. While Chinese President Xi Jinping will not be coming to the summit, other top world leaders will be in the city.

The 'Free Tibet' protestors chanted slogans denouncing Xi Jinping and demanding liberation from China. Demonstrators also carried flags and a large banner telling G20 delegates that diplomatic assurances given by China were not trustworthy.

Tibetan Youth Congress President Gonpo Dhundup told ANI that the protests were not meant to disrupt the G20 proceedings.

“Our protest is against the Chinese Communist Government. Chinese Government illegally occupied our nation. Currently, the situation in Tibet is very critical,” Dhundup told the news agency.

Claiming the Tibetan community forced out of China were the real victims, Dhundup said “we want to put a reminder for all 19 nations that China is not to be trusted.”
