Three workers killed after roof of Chennai pub collapses

Three workers were killed in Chennai on March 28, after a portion of a roof of a famous pub collapsed on them. The incident happened at Sekhmet Bar on Chamiers road in the upmarket locality of Alwarpet here. According to reports, the roof of the first floor fell on them.

Among the three deceased workers, two were reportedly from Manipur and one was a transgender, PTI reported citing police.

They have been identified as Cyclone Raj, 45, of Dindigul, two migrant workers were identified as Max and Lolly, natives of Manipur.

On Thursday, the "building's first floor concrete ceiling collapsed abruptly," a City Police release said.

"In this regard, a case would be registered and investigated accordingly," the release said.

On information, the police reached the spot, retrieved the bodies and sent them to Government Royapettah Hospital.

Senior Police officers visited the spot. TN Fire & Rescue Services and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were engaged in clearing the debris.

The victims were employees of the pub, a senior official had said earlier.

While the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, some are blaming the metro railway work, which is coming up less than 50 feet away from the bar.

Meanwhile, authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the roof collapse.
