Top Commander Thippiri Tirupati Appointed New CPI (Maoist) Leader

Hyderabad, Sept 10 (PTI) In a significant development within the banned CPI (Maoist), top commander Thippiri Tirupati, also known as Devji, has been appointed as the new general secretary. This information was confirmed by police sources on Wednesday.

The appointment of Devji comes in the wake of the death of his predecessor, Nambala Keshav Rao, alias Basavaraju, who perished at the hands of security forces in Chhattisgarh on May 21.

Devji, who is reportedly in his 60s, was chosen during a recent meeting held in Bastar. The decision underscores the tactical and strategic considerations that inform leadership selection within the Maoist ranks, a senior Telangana police official shared with PTI.

Described as a formidable strategist, Devji hails from Jagtial district in Telangana. Reports indicate that he carries a bounty of Rs 1 crore and is credited with the creation of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA). His ascent through the ranks saw him become a crucial Central Committee member and a part of the Maoist politburo.

Devji has also been linked to orchestrating numerous Maoist operations, most notably the infamous April 2010 Dantewada ambush that resulted in the deaths of 74 CRPF personnel.
