In a critical response to a devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh convened a high-level meeting to assess the security situation. Among the participants were Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the chiefs of the three armed services, and top defence officials. Singh emphasized the need to enhance combat readiness and intensify anti-terror operations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who returned quickly from Saudi Arabia, assured the nation that justice will be served and promised no leniency for the perpetrators. Home Minister Amit Shah has also journeyed to Srinagar to oversee security efforts directly. The attack took place in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in South Kashmir, and left several injured. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted a high-level review of the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday following a devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 individuals. The meeting, which involved Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the chiefs of the three armed services, the Defence Secretary, and the Army's Director General of Military Operations, focused on assessing the response strategy. Sources indicate that Singh instructed the armed forces to ramp up their combat readiness and intensify anti-terror operations in the region. The attack, occurring at a prominent tourist spot in Pahalgam, South Kashmir, on Tuesday, tragically resulted in the death of at least 26 people. Among the deceased were two foreigners—one from the UAE and another from Nepal—as well as two local residents. Several others were injured in the incident, according to official reports. In response to the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi swiftly returned from his visit to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday morning, while Home Minister Amit Shah immediately traveled to Srinagar on Tuesday evening to oversee security efforts firsthand. The Prime Minister has firmly stated that those responsible for the attack will face justice, promising that no one will be spared.
