Rahul Gandhi Accuses BJP of Vote Theft, Questions Credentials

New Delhi, May 6 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of winning seats in the Lok Sabha through electoral malpractice, terming it “vote chori” and questioning if such MPs should be called “ghuspethiya” using BJP's own terminology.

Gandhi asserted that if a fair election were held today, the BJP would struggle to win even 140 seats in the Lok Sabha.

In a post on X in Hindi, Gandhi remarked, “Of the 240 BJP MPs in the Lok Sabha, approximately every sixth one secured a seat through vote theft. Should we, therefore, from BJP’s perspective, call them 'ghuspethiya'? Moreover, the entire government in Haryana could be termed as 'ghuspethiya'. These institutions they control and manipulate to alter voter lists and the electoral process are, in fact, 'remote-controlled',” Gandhi declared in a sharp critique of the BJP.

“Their actual fear lies in the truth because, in genuinely fair elections, they would not manage to secure more than 140 seats today,” he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, Gandhi described the BJP's triumph in the Bengal and Assam assembly elections as a “theft” of mandate and a substantial leap in BJP's pursuit to “destroy” Indian democracy.

Supporting the TMC, which faced defeat by the BJP in the elections, Gandhi urged those celebrating Mamata Banerjee's party loss to rise above minor political differences.

“Some in the Congress, along with others, are celebrating the TMC’s defeat. They should recognize that the hijacking of the electoral mandates in Assam and Bengal is a major advancement in BJP's mission to dismantle Indian democracy,” Gandhi conveyed in a post on X.

“Set aside trivial political agendas. This matter consumes more than any one party. This is about India,” he concluded in his post.

The BJP succeeded in unseating the Trinamool Congress in Bengal and claimed power in Assam for the third consecutive term as per the assembly poll outcomes declared on Monday.
