Queen Elizabeth II death: India to observe state mourning; flags to be hoisted at half-mast

India has declared one day of state mourning on September 11 as a mark of respect to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II who breathed her last on Thursday.

Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the National Flag will be hoisted at half-mast throughout India on all buildings where the National Flag is hoisted regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day of mourning.

The British High Commission has also opened a book of condolence at the High Commissioner’s residence for people to pay their respects.

Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi had paid a tribute to the late Queen by remembering her as a "stalwart of contemporary times".

"She personified dignity and decency in public life," PM Modi said, recalling his "memorable" meetings with the Queen in 2015 and 2018.
