Punjab allocates Rs. 80 lakh to NGOs for skill development, targeting youth and women empowerment

Under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is making strides toward empowering its youth through skill development.

In a recent initiative aimed at fostering self-reliance, the government has sanctioned a substantial Rs. 80 lakh for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) dedicated to this cause. Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, shared insights into this commendable endeavor.

Dr. Baljit Kaur elaborated on the various skill-enhancement programs spearheaded by NGOs across Punjab’s diverse districts. These programs are tailored to equip young individuals and women with indispensable skills such as cutting and tailoring, fashion designing, computer proficiency, tally, and beauty therapy.

The ultimate goal is to prepare them for self-employment and enhance their economic prospects.

Specifically, Rs. 40 lakh has been earmarked for four NGOs in the Sri Muktsar Sahib district, focusing on cutting and tailoring, fashion design, and computer training initiatives.

An additional Rs. 10 lakh is designated for an NGO in Sangrur district, solely for a comprehensive cutting and tailoring course.

Moreover, Bathinda district is set to enhance its skill development offerings with a Rs. 30 lakh grant divided among three NGOs. This financial boost is expected to significantly aid local youth in securing sustainable livelihoods.

Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasized the Punjab Government’s unwavering dedication to advancing social development and uplifting the standard of living for young people.

She affirmed that this initiative is part of a broader commitment to nurturing self-reliance among the state’s youth, with more such empowering programs on the horizon.
