Privilege motion against ex-chief justice Gogoi after remarks on Rajya Sabha attendance

TMC has filed a privilege motion against former chief justice of India Ranjan Gogoi for his remarks during a recent interview to NDTV.

Replying to a question regarding his low attendance in the Rajya Sabha, Gogoi initially said that he did not attend Parliament due to Covid-19 and that lack of Covid protocols in the House made him uncomfortable.

He then went on to say, “I go to the Rajya Sabha when I feel like, when I think there are matters of importance on which I should speak. I am a nominated member, not governed by any party whip. I go there of my choice and come out on my choice.I am an independent member of the house."

The notice submitted by TMC on Monday stated that Justice Gogoi's statements are in contempt of the Rajya Sabha, undermine the dignity of the house and constitute breach of privilege.
