Winter Session ends a day early amid protests, Venkaiah asks MPs to 'introspect'

Parliament's Winter Session was adjourned ahead of the schedule on Wednesday as pandemonium continued in the House over suspension of MPs from Rajya Sabha and opposition protests over various other issues.

The Winter Session was scheduled to end on Thursday.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu expressed disappointment over proceedings saying that the performance of the House in the Winter Session had been below expectation. He urged the MPs to introspect.

Rajya Sabha saw unrelenting Opposition protests over the suspension of 12 Opposition MPs for unruly conduct.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said over 18 hours and 48 minutes were wasted during the Parliament Winter Session due to disruption.
However, Important bills were discussed and approved. The House also discussed Omicron, climate change, and other important issues, he said.

During the session, the House saw the passage of nine bills which included the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill and legislations to fix the tenure of directors of the Enforcement Directorate and CBI at five years and supplementary demands for grants.

The government introduced 12 bills during the session, including the Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill that seeks to increase the marriageable age for girls from 18 years to 21 years.
