Congress leader Shashi Tharoor's 'Jai Samvidhar' slogan sparked a row in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. Speaker Om Birla objected to the remark as Tharoor walked back to his seat after being sworn in. "We are already swearing on the Constitution," Birla said.

Birla's remark triggered an uproar from multiple leaders of the Opposition, who said that the Lok Sabha Speaker should not object to someone hailing the Constitution.

The row was one of many on the opening days of the 18th Lok Sabha.

Multiple leaders of the Opposition, including Congress' Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, took their oaths earlier this week while holding a copy of India's Constitution in their hands.

Chandrashekhar, Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) MP from Uttar Pradesh's Nagina, had an longer list of slogans at the end of his oath. Holding a copy of Constitution, he said "Jai Bhim, jai Bharat, jai Samvidhan, jai Mandal, jai Johar, jai jawan, jai kisan".
