The body of a 36-year-old woman, chopped into several pieces, was found in a flat on the seventh floor of a building in the Mira-Bhayandar area of Thane district on Wednesday night, police said.

The body of a 36-year-old woman, chopped into several pieces, was found in a flat on the seventh floor of a building in the Mira-Bhayandar area of Thane district on Wednesday night, police said.
The victim, Saraswati Vaidya, was in a live-in relationship with a man, identified as Manoj Sahani (56), and the couple has been residing in the flat since the last three years, a senior official at the Naya Nagar police station said.
Police were alerted by local residents who complained of a foul smell emanating from the flat, he said.
A team rushed to the spot and found the decomposed body of the woman which was cut into several pieces, said the official.
He said police have taken into custody two suspects and they are being interrogated.
The official did not reveal the identity of the suspects or a possible motive behind the murder.
A probe was underway.

Referring to Gandhi's recent remarks made at an event in the US, the minister said, "The world is watching us".
"Rahul Gandhi has a habit of criticising India abroad," he said, replying to a question.
"I don't think taking national politics out of the country is in the national interest," Jaishankar said.
At an event in the US, Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to drive the Indian car by only looking in the rear-view mirror which will lead to "one accident after another."

The onset of monsoon in Kerala was announced earlier in the day by the IMD which said it was delayed by a week.
However, experts are of the view that delays in the onset of monsoon in Kerala is not a matter of concern as it is not the first time and expressed hope that the rains in the next 2-3 weeks would make up for the deficit at the beginning.

School principal Memroz Shafi added that the students had been told that they can wear abaya from home to school, but they should take it off inside the school premises.
"We told them to wear a long white-coloured Hijab or a large dupatta as that is part of the school uniform. They come wearing colourful abayas, with different designs which is not part of the uniform," she said.

A woman from the Cuttack district had even identified a body as her husband's.

A woman who tried to "fake" her husband&rsquo;s death in the Balasore train accident for compensation cash announced by the state government and Railways is in trouble.
Gitanjali Datta of Maniabanda in Cuttack district had claimed that her husband Bijay Datta had died in the accident on June 2 and had even identified a body as her husband's. However, after verification of the documents, it was found that her claim was false.
Though police let her go with a warning, trouble started after her husband filed a complaint at Maniabandha police station. The woman has now gone into hiding fearing arrest, police said.
Police said the couple has been living separately for the last 13 years.
Bijay has demanded stringent action against Gitanjali for attempting to grab public money and also faking his death.
Maniabanda police station in-charge Basant Kumar Satpathy said police have asked Gitanjali&rsquo;s husband to lodge a complaint at Bahanaga police station in Balasore district as the incident took place there.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary PK Jena asked the Railways and Odisha police to take stringent action against people making fake claimants over bodies.
Earlier, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced Rs 5 lakh ex gratia for the next of kin of the deceased while Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh. On the other hand, the Railway Ministry has declared Rs 10 lakh compensation for the families of those who died in the accident.
The Coromandel Express crashed into a stationary goods train, derailing most of its coaches at 7 pm on June 2. In all, some 288 people died in the accident and more than 1,200 were injured.
A few coaches of Coromandel toppled over the last few coaches of the Bengaluru-Howrah Express which was passing by at the same time.&nbsp;

The 15-year-old boy, Ramananda Paswan, who was recuperating in the ICU of a hospital in Cuttack, saw his parents on a news channel and alerted the staff.&nbsp;
The hospital then facilitated the reunion of the boy with his parents who had come from Nepal to search for him.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I am happy to find my son. He was travelling with three of our relatives. All of them were killed in the accident. He, however, miraculously escaped with injuries,&rdquo; said the boy&rsquo;s father Hari Paswan.
After coming to Bhubaneswar, Hari and his wife were visiting one hospital after another in search of their son.
While in AIIMS Bhubaneswar, they came across a journalist of a local TV news channel who reported their ordeal.
Ramananda saw the report on the television in his room and identified his parents. He informed the hospital authorities about it.
&ldquo;The hospital called up the TV channel&rsquo;s office, got the videos and showed them to Ramananda to reconfirm if they were indeed his parents. Following this, the hospital authorities were successful in connecting Ramanada with his parents,&rdquo; SCB Medical College Emergency Officer Dr BN Moharana told PTI.
"Emotional moment for us that a 15-year-old boy from Nepal Ramanand Paswan who was a victim of Baleswar Train tragedy got his parents miraculously," the hospital tweeted.
