Amid heated debate, politics and polarised views around the movie "The Kashmir Files", Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel watched the movie in Raipur on Wednesday night alongwith a number of MLAs.

Baghel is one of the very few Congress leaders to watch the Bollywood film based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits.

‘Kashmir Files’ showed that the central government running with the support of the BJP did not try to stop the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, the Chhattisgarh chief minister said after watching Vivek Agnihotri’s film.

Baghel also told reporters that the film was "half-cooked and there was just an attempt to show violence".

Set around 1989-90, Baghel said, ‘Kashmir Files’ also had a political message suggesting that VP Singh was the prime minister and the BJP-supported government didn’t send the army despite President’s rule in the state. He added that only after Rajiv Gandhi gheraoed Parliament, did the central government depployed Army in the Valley.

The film has got appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has asked everyone to watch it.

Even as a number of BJP ruled states made the movie tax free, Baghel appealed to the Prime Minister to make the film tax free across the country.

The film has been at the centre of a raging debate for days. Several videos shot inside cinema halls have been doing rounds on social media in which people can be heard raising anti-Muslim slogans after watching it.
