Sidhu Moose Wala's life: controversial music, gun culture row, politics with Congress

Sidhu Moose Wala, the Punjabi singer-cum-politician, was shot dead in Mansa district on May 29. He was born in 1993 in the Moose Wala village, and held a degree in electrical engineering.

Sidhu Moose Wala Musical Journey

  • Moose Wala learned music while he was studying in college, and subsequently moved to Canada.
  • His musical career began with writing of a song called 'Licence' sung by Ninja.
  • Moose Wala is now famous for his 'gangster raps' which have also sparked controversy for allegedly glorifying guns and violence.
  • His song 'Jatti Jeonay Morh Di Bandook Wargi' was accused of 18th century Sikh warrior Mai Bhago in poor light.
  • Another song 'Sanju' sparked a row as it was released after Moose Wala got bail in an AK 47 firing case. The singer had compared himself to Sanjay Dutt in the song.

During the year-long farmer protest at the Delhi border, Moose Wala was accused of releasing a song which glorified Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

Moose Wala's political journey

Moose Wala's political journey began with the Congress party in November 2021. He had also contested the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. Moose Wala had contested from the Mansa seat, leading to rebellion by then sitting MLA from the constituency Nazar Singh Manshahia.

Moose Wala had eventually been defeated by Aam Aadmi Party's Vijay Singla. He was the minister recently sacked from the Punjab Cabinet by CM Bhagwant Mann on corruption charges.
