'They show no remorse': Rajya Sabha chairman refuses to revoke MPs suspension

Opposition created huge ruckus in both Houses of Parliament on Tuesday over the suspension of 12 Opposition Rajya Sabha MPs over their unruly behaviour during the last Monsoon Session.

Calling the action undemocratic, Opposition MPs demanded revocation of suspension.

Rejecting the demand, Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu said that the MPs have not expressed any remorse over their actions.

"The bitter experience of the last Monsoon Session still continues to haunt most of us. I was expecting & waiting for the leading lights of the House to take lead in expressing outrage over what happened in the last Session."

Noting that the suspended MPs have expressed "no remorse", Naidu ruled that their suspension won't be revoked.

12 Rajya Sabha MPs were suspended for rest of the Winter Session of the Parliament for 'unruly behaviour' during the last session, i.e the Monsoon Session.

Among the suspended members, six are from the Congress, two each from the TMC and Shiv Sena and one each from the CPM and the CPI.

The Rajya Sabha saw chaotic scenes on the last day of the Monsoon Session in August with marshals being called in as Opposition members protested over various issues. The government had accused the Opposition of not only unruly behaviour but also accused some of them of manhandling a woman marshal in the House.
