The Delhi High Court has reportedly ordered the police to file an FIR against BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain in an alleged rape case. India Today reported that the HC after noting that the police were reluctant to file an FIR in the case has set a period of three months to complete the investigation.
The court also said the lower court had rejected the police argument and observed that the woman's complaint made a case for a cognizable offence.
In January 2018, a Delhi-based woman filed a petition in the lower court to file an FIR against Hussain. She alleged that the BJP leader had raped her and threatened to kill her.

According to police, Gordhan Ram Mali (50), a resident of Deva village, had attempted self-immolation outside Kotwali police station on August 3, a day after an FIR was registered against him following the complaint by the woman.
Tej Karan Parihar, SHO, Mahila Thana said Mali had sustained 70 per cent burn injuries, adding that he was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jodhpur.
He died on Tuesday during treatment, the officer said.
Parihar said Mali had registered a case of theft and intimidation against the woman and her brothers on August 1.
Police said the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Wednesday held talks with his Russian counterpart Nikolai Patrushev in Moscow, focusing on bilateral, regional and global issues.
Both sides discussed issues relating to bilateral cooperation in the areas of security as well as topical issues on the regional and international agenda, according to a Russian readout.
"A wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in the area of security, as well as topical problems on the regional and international agenda, were discussed," it said.
"The sides agreed to continue the dialogue between the two countries' Security Councils, having emphasised the progressive development of the Russian-Indian special and privileged strategic partnership," the Russian statement said.
It is learnt that various aspects of overall bilateral strategic cooperation and the situation in Afghanistan figured in the discussions.
India has not yet condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine and it has been maintaining that the crisis must be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue.
In the last few months, India has also increased the import of discounted crude oil from Russia notwithstanding increasing disquiet over it by several Western powers.
India's crude oil imports from Russia have jumped over 50 times since April and now it makes up for 10 per cent of all crude bought from overseas.
Last month, Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov said Russia appreciates India for not supporting attempts to isolate it in multilateral forums and that bilateral trade between the two countries is on an upswing.
India has also been in touch with several leading powers including Russia on the situation in Afghanistan.
In June, India re-established its diplomatic presence in Kabul by deploying a "technical team" in its embassy in the Afghan capital.
India had withdrawn its officials from the embassy after the Taliban seized power last August following concerns over their security.

Saying that nobody asked her before taking such a big decision, she appealed Gujarat govt to undo the harm and give her back her right to live without fear and in peace. 
All the eleven convicts sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2002 post-Godhra Bilkis Bano gang rape and murder of seven members of her family on Monday walked out of Godhra sub-jail after the Gujarat government allowed their release under its remission policy. 
Bilkis Bano was 21 years old and five months pregnant when she was raped while fleeing the violence that broke out post the Sabarmati train incident in Godhra.

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday announced that around 1100 Rohingyas staying in tents will be shifted to EWS flats in Bakkarwal area of Delhi and provided with basic amenities.
Citing UN Refugee Convention, Puri tweeted, "India respects & follows UN  Refugee Convention 1951 & provides refuge to all, regardless of their race, religion or creed."
The announcement ensued a controversy with several right groups slamming the Cente for backtracking on its earlier claims that Rohingya Muslims were 'not refugees but illegal migrants.' 
Vishwa Hindu Parishad hit out at the Narendra Modi-led government for its move and asked it to reconsider the decision.
"Instead of providing the Rohingyas with housing, make arrangements to send them back and out of India," Alok Kumar, VHP Central working president told ANI.
Reacting sharply to the move, BJP's Tathagat Roy said Rohingya Muslims are illegal infiltratos not refugees under CAA.
"They are distinctly unwelcome even in Muslim-majority Bangladesh," he tweeted.
 Later, Union Home Ministry clarified that it has not given any directions to provide EWS flats to Rohingya illegal migrants at Bakkarwala in New Delhi.
"With respect to news reports in certain sections of media regarding Rohingya illegal foreigners, it is clarified that the MHA has not given any directions to provide EWS flats to Rohingya illegal migrants at Bakkarwala in New Delhi," an MHA spokesperson said.
The Ministry further said it has directed Delhi government to ensure that the Rohingya  illegal foreigners will  continue at the present location until their deportation as per law. 
On the proposed move by the Delhi government to shift the Rohingya Muslims to a new location, the MHA has directed the Delhi government to ensure that the Rohingya illegal foreigners remain at their present location as it has already taken up the matter of their deportation with the country concerned through the Ministry of External Affairs.
After their dwellings were gutted in fire twice in 2018 and 2021, Rohingya migrants have been living in tents provided by the Delhi government, The Indian Express reported.
The rehabilitation of Rohingya Muslims has been a controversial issue in India. BJP has often used the subject of 'illegal migration' to amass votes.
Rohingya, an ethnic group with a predominantly Muslim population hails from Western Myanmar province of Rakhine. They speak Bengali, not the commonly spoken Burmese language.
The United Nations has accused Myanmar of ethnic cleansing in Rakhine area. As a result of violence, about 5 lakh Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh, and approximately 40,000 moved to India.
Earlier, Union Home Ministry in Parliament stated that all Rohingyas in India were illegal immigrants and will be deported soon. In an advisory to state, the ministry said, "infiltration from Rakhine state of Myanmar into India poses security challenges."

They will be provided basic amenities, UNHCR IDs &amp; round-the-clock @DelhiPolice protection.'
In a second tweet, the union minister for Housing, Urban Affairs shared a news report stating the same.&nbsp;
The tweets led to AAP hitting out at the Modi govt which has maintained that Rohingya refugees are a threat to the nation and accusing it going back on its stand. The party said that it would not let the govt allocate any flats to the Rohingyas citing security threat.&nbsp;
The controversy led to the Home Ministry issuing a clarification that it had not given any directions to provide flats to Rohingya Muslims in Delhi and asked the Arvind Kejriwal government to ensure the illegal foreigners remained at their present location.
'With respect to news reports in certain sections of media regarding Rohingya illegal foreigners, it is clarified that the MHA has not given any directions to provide EWS flats to Rohingya illegal migrants at Bakkarwala in New Delhi,' according to a ministry statement.&nbsp;
'The illegal foreigners are to be kept in the detention centre till their deportation as per law. The government of Delhi has not declared the present location as a detention centre. They have been directed to do the same immediately,' the statement further read.
The Home Ministry in its statement also said that it was the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/delhi-govt-defers-relaxations-in-driving-test-here-s-why-1660018636624">Govt of Delhi </a>that had proposed shifting of Rohingya refugees to a new location.

In a press conference held by <a href="https://www.editorji.com/india-news/union-minister-gadkari-dropped-from-bjp-s-parliamentary-board-1660725483158">BJP</a>, its spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said the decision to shift Rohingyas was taken at meeting held on July 29 that was chaired by the Chief Secretary of Delhi.&nbsp;
&nbsp;He added "the law of our country says that Rohingyas will be deported and this jurisdiction lies with the Ministry of Home Affairs." The Modi government has a clear policy that there will be no compromise on national security, he said.
The AAP in return accused to the Modi govt of trying to pin blame on Delhi govt after facing flak. &nbsp;Delhi Deputy Chief Minister said that the Centre was trying to give permanent residence to Rohingyas secretly. He added that the decision taken during July 29 meeting was at the behest of the Centre.&nbsp;

Rise in Covid cases: DGCA directs airlines to enforce protocol 
 
In wake of rising COVID-19 cases, commercial airlines have been directed by DGCA to ensure that passengers adhere to covid norms throughout the journey. The statutory body has also asked the airline operators to sensitise passengers about the same through various platforms. 
Strict action will be taken against those who will not follow the protocol. 
Following a drop in positivity rate and hospitalisation due to covid, mask rules in Delhi were relaxed in March this year. However, there has been a recent surge in virus cases in the capital, with the cases of hospitalisation increasing nearly two-fold in the last two weeks.

Aviation regulator DGCA on Wednesday asked all Indian carriers to strictly enforce COVID-19 protocol, including mask mandate for passengers, in aircraft amid a rise in infections across the country.
In a statement, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (<a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/spicejet-penalised-dgca-orders-50-flights-to-be-grounded-for-8-weeks-1658931665335">DGCA</a>) said it will be conducting "random checks" in aircraft across the country to see if the COVID-19 protocol is being enforced or not.
Airlines have to ensure that passengers are wearing face masks properly throughout the journey and there is proper sensitisation of passengers through various platforms, it mentioned.
"In case a passenger does not comply with the directions, strict action will be taken by airlines against the passenger," it added.
In view of the rise in the number of <a href="https://www.editorji.com/world-news/hong-kong-lifts-flight-ban-citing-little-effect-on-covid-19-1657188720510">COVID-19</a> cases, the airlines have been advised again on August 16 to strictly comply with COVID-19 protocol inside the aircraft, it mentioned.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday launched a national mission to make India the number one country in the world and called on all citizens and political parties to join it.
Providing free education and healthcare to citizens, employment to youths, equal rights and dignity to women and fair price to farmers for their produce are needed to achieve the goal, he said.
Kejriwal said he will travel across the country as part of the mission -- 'Make India No. 1' -- to encourage people to join the initiative and achieve its objectives.
He said the mission is apolitical in nature.
"This is not the mission of a political party, it's a national mission. I call upon the BJP and all other parties to come forward and join this initiative to make India the number one country in the world," the chief minister said.
Many countries like Singapore got independence after India but are ahead of us. Why is India lagging behind despite Indians being the "most intelligent and hard working in the world", Kejriwal asked.

Maharashtra Opposition leaders on Wednesday protested outside the state Assembly over several issues including excessive rain aftermath on farmers.  
With Maharashtra Assembly convening its monsoon session on August 17, NCP, Congress and Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena huddled outside the assembly raising slogans and placards against the state government.
The three parties on Tuesday had also boycotted the tea party hosted by CM Eknath Shinde. Leader of Opposition Ajit Pawar had asserted that Shinde government's formation was not in line with stipulated constitutional regulations, and hence was against democratic values.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday slammed Prime Minister Modi alleging that his party's support to criminals displays its mindset towards women. 
Citing rape cases in areas involving BJP-ruled states, Rahul rapped the saffron party saying that rapists were either protected or supported  by the party  in those areas.
He further asked the Prime Minister if he was not ashamed of playing such politics.
In a tweet in Hindi the Congress MP wrote, "Unnao - worked to save BJP MLA. Kathua - rally in favour of rapists. Hathras - the government in favour of rapists. Gujarat - the release and honour of rapists. The support to criminals displays the petty mindset of the BJP towards women."
Gandhi's remarks have been made in the wake of release of Biknis Bano rape case convicts, who were released under the Gujarat government's remission policy released on August 15. Earlier, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram had claimed that  two BJP MLAs were part of the review panel that granted the rape convicts remission. 
Eleven convicts, sentenced to life imprisonment, walked out of the Godhra sub-jail on August 15 after the Gujarat government allowed their release under its remission policy citing that they had completed over 15 years in jail. 
Bilkis Bano was 5 months pregnant when she was gang-raped in the aftermath of Godhra riots. Her 3-year-old daughter was also killed in the violence.

Citing fake content, the Centre on Thursday blocked 8 YouTube channels including a Pakistani streaming platform, along wih a Facebook account and two Facebook posts.  
With a subscription base of over 85 lakh users, the seven blocked channels are Loktantra TV, U&V TV, AM Razvi, Gourabshali Pawan Mithilanchal, Sarkari Update, and Sa Kuch Dekho. 
While blocked Pakistan channel News ki Dunya has a subsriber base of 97,000. 
These channels were propagating fake anti-India contentand had over 114 crore views, Ministry of Information & Broadcast said in a statement.
Blocked under Information Technology Rules-2021, these YouTube channels made false claims such as demolition of religious structures by the Government of India, ban on celebration of religious festivals, declaration of religious war in India, an I&B official said 
It added that such content would disturb communal harmony and can lead to public disorder. 
The ministry said  the YouTube channels were also used to post fake news on various subjects such as the Indian Armed Forces and Jammu and Kashmir. 
"The content was observed to be completely false and sensitive from the perspective of national security and India's friendly relations with foreign States," the statement further read.
According to an Indian Express report, I&B Ministry since Dcember 2021 has issued directions for blocking 102 YouTube-based channled and several other social media handles.

A boat with three AK-47 rifles and bullets was found off the Raigad coast in Maharashtra on Thursday triggering a security alert. 
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters that the boat belonged to an Australian woman and it was captained by her husband. 
He added that the boat which was sailing from Muscat to Oman had made a distress call on June 26, 2022 after its engine broke down. The crew was rescued by a nearby Korean Navy ship and handed over to Oman authorities. 
Fadnavis said that even though there has been no confirmation of a terror angle, they are not ruling out any possibility with Ganesh festival coming up in the state.

The boat couldn't be towed back to the shore back then because of high tide and it drifted its way to Maharashtra coast, the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister said, adding that the Indian Coast Guard has confirmed the details.&nbsp;
A high alert is still in place in the state and checkpoints have been set up at several locations because of the upcoming festival season.&nbsp;
Fadnavis said that even though there has been no confirmation of a terror angle, they are not ruling out any possibility.&nbsp;

A 25-year-old man was arrested here in a village for wearing a burqa to hide his identity when he went to meet his girlfriend, police said on Thursday.
Saif Ali was booked under charges of “breach of peace” for hiding behind the burqa, police said.
Ali had got a job away from his home and before moving out, he wanted to meet his girlfriend in Mehmadpur village of Sidhauli Police Station area.
Since he was known in the area, he wore a 'burqa' to hide his identity and went to meet his girlfriend on Tuesday, Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Sanjeev Bajpai said on Thursday.
His appearance behind the burqa stoked suspicions of the locals, who asked Ali to remove it, and when they found a man underneath, they informed the police.
One of the locals also made a video of the incident which is in circulation on social media.
Bajpai said Ali has been taken into custody under sections of breach of peace.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's daughter Anita Bose Pfaff said she will soon approach the Indian and the Japanese governments for a DNA test of the ashes at Tokyo's Renkoji Temple.
In an interview to PTI, Pfaff said resolving the mystery shrouding Bose's life and bringing back the ashes to India would be a true tribute to the revolutionary as the country celebrates its 75th anniversary of Independence.
"I, as the daughter of Netaji, want this (mystery) to end in my lifetime. I would soon officially approach the Indian government with the request to conduct a DNA test. I will wait for some time for their response, if I get a response, it's good, and if I don't, I will get in touch with the Japanese government. If the government agrees or if they ask me to move forward and don't want to get involved, then I can take it forward," she said.
Pfaff, a German, said she had approached the Indian government for the DNA test when the Congress was in power but never got a reply.
"This time, I won't dillydally much longer. This COVID situation has already delayed the matter by two years. I would parallelly get in touch with the Japanese government. Initially, the Japanese government decided to keep the ashes as they thought they would be for a few months. But now it has been 77 years," she said in a telephonic interview from Germany.
"I don't want to name anyone. But for some people, it is true, saw a political campaign in Netaji's life and mystery for their political advantage. But, this is not a general attitude. A majority of the people still admire him and are not in politics," said Pfaff, an economist.
She said that the BJP-led government in India has been doing more in honouring the legacy of Bose.
"But at the same time, I don't see a reason they should take the initiative without my pushing them," she said.
"It is not a mystery for me as there is ample proof that he died in the air crash. But, I want his ashes to be brought back to his motherland. I want to do this service to my father," she said.
Pfaff said technology advancement now offers the means for sophisticated DNA testing.
"To those who still doubt whether Netaji died on August 18, 1945, or not, it offers a chance to obtain scientific proof that the remains kept at Renkoji Temple in Tokyo are his," she said.
Since Independence, the Centre formed three inquiry commissions to unravel the mystery over Netaji's disappearance.
Two of them -- the Shah Nawaz Commission and Khosla Commission, formed by the Congress governments -- concluded that Bose died in an air crash. The third one -- the Mukherjee Commission formed by the BJP-led NDA government had said he did not die in it.
In 2015, the West Bengal government released 64 files on Netaji held by the Home Department. The Narendra Modi government in 2016 released 100 files on the legend.
